We mourn the death today of our colleague and friend José de los Santos Sauna Limaco, governor of the Kogui – Malayo – Arhuaco Indigenous Reserve.

We honor the life of José de los Santos, his leadership, and his dedication to the protection of his Kogui people and the defense of the Linea Negra, a network of sacred sites of the four communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

We share this sad moment with his family, the Kogui people, and the indigenous peoples of Colombia.
