ACT designs programs specifically to support the health of our indigenous partners because the degree to which our partners enjoy good health determines the level of their ability to sustain themselves and to conserve their lands and culture. ACT’s healthcare promotion programs operate at two levels: we seek to provide access to healthcare in our remote partner communities, where such access has been limited; and we support culturally sensitive programs that preserve and promote the traditional medicinal knowledge that helps define indigenous identity and culture. Across these initiatives, we attempt to build “integrated” healthcare models, programs that offer both traditional and western medicines and that provide opportunities for collaboration between western and traditional healthcare providers.
