Indigenous Association Building: Colombia
ACT has enabled its partners to realize the potential of Colombia's progressive legislation, which promotes indigenous authority over community affairs and allows for significant input on local development strategies through officially recognized indigenous associations. The establishment of and ongoing support for these community associations are the foundation for ACT's work in Colombia, because the associations act as the implementing bodies for all community and land-use activities in their communities.
Therefore, ACT continuously conducts a wide range of training workshops for four of the most active indigenous associations in southwestern Colombia: Tandachiridu Inganokuna (Inga Indigenous Community of the Caquetá); Nukanchipa Atunkunapa Alpa (Inga Indigenous Community of the Baja Bota Caucana); Consejo Regional del Orteguaza Medio Caquetá - CRIOMC (Coreguaje Indigenous Community); and Asociación de Cabildos Indígenas Siona - ACIPS (Siona Indigenous Community).
