Elder women healers from ColombiaACT is sensitive to the historical marginalization and exclusion of women from various types of conservation and community development plans.  Therefore, where possible we have made a special effort to emphasize the critical role of women in maintaining their communities, and to assist their growth as more visible community and conservation leaders.

Supporting Women Healers

In the Colombian Amazon, women assume responsibility for many basic healthcare needs.  ACT acts to promote the recovery, strengthening, and transmission of knowledge and traditional medical practices by supporting mamas (female shamans) and their apprentices.

Women's Sustainable DevelopmentIncome generation for indigenous women

Historically, women have overseen household economies, and within Amazonian indigenous communities this role is especially evident.  Their communities depend on their agricultural and food processing skills for basic nourishment.  ACT seeks to improve indigenous and native village life, and thereby the communities' strength to protect their rainforest environment, by building income-generating activities for women.
