Radio programming by indigenous communitiesACT has assisted several of its indigenous partners to promote cultural and educational issues through community-based radio programming. For better or for worse, mass media communications have been a driving force behind cultural change in communities across the Amazon.  In 2001, indigenous communities of southwestern Colombia had a vision: to use the power of the airwaves to promote cultural learning and community projects and to build community cohesion and pride.  ACT responded by assisting in the construction and equipping of two low-wattage community radio stations managed by members of the Inga and Coreguaje communities of the department of Caquetá.  Both stations broadcast 40 hours weekly of indigenous language programming including cultural discussions, public service announcements, indigenous music, and news on community events.  More...
